Most people keep a close eye on their meter to ensure that their car does not run out of gas. However, what about checking the tyre pressure of the car? Even though this is mostly forgotten, if you want to extend the life of your car and tyres, proper inflation is a must.

Keeping your tyres properly inflated will also ensure that you and your family members are safe on the road.

Why It is Important to Check the Tyre Pressure of the Car

Most people trust their eyesight when checking the pressure in their tyres. This means that if they think that their tyres don’t “look” flat, the car is good to go.

While we do not discourage you from visually inspecting your car tyres before you take them on the road, it is important to properly check the tyre pressure, otherwise, you are putting yourself at risk. Driving a car with over or under-inflated tyres will also result in you wasting lots of money later in case you get into an accident. Who wants that, right?

Overinflated tyres lower the amount of tread that reaches the ground, making them super dangerous. This means that when you are on the road, your car will not be stable enough as it will not have sufficient traction.

On the other hand, uninflated tyres wear out extremely fast. This is because the wheels take on added stress the tyres do not have enough pressure. Eventually, they begin to overheat. When a tyre gets hot, it will lose its treat fast. Of course, let’s also keep in mind that one of the major benefits of properly inflated tyres is that they will save you loads of money in the future.

How Often Should You Check Your Tyre Pressure

It is best to check the tyre pressure of your car regularly so that you can be confident that the tyres are functioning properly. Each time you go towards your car, visually check the tyres and kick them a bit to check the pressure. Make it a routine that when you go to the pump, you get the pressure professionally checked again.

To make this easier, you can run down to your local hardware shop and purchase a handheld pressure gauge. This will allow you to check the pressure of your tyres whenever you want, regardless of where you are. In case you are unable to do so regularly, you should definitely get the tyre pressure of your car checked once every month, without fail.

Remember, it is always better to be safe than sorry!
